| Post subject: | Tapping |
Morning all, Yesterday I did my usual christening service when buying a new car.. Oil was fully synthetic 10/40w Havoline(5L £12.99 Always use Havoline as it has good reviews) Spark plugs Air filter Champion oil filter Antifreeze change Since completing this, I feel there is now a tapping from the engine(Might have been there before but might me just think it started after change) Will this be the tappets? if so, is it cause they are waiting for oil to get lubricated after the new oil? I think the tapping left after car was warm but not sure about this and will leave car running until fan kicks in to see if it disappears. Cheers for any info/ideas. |

Think it's pretty normal mate. Just takes a while for the oil to get through the system and reach the right places...or something along those lines

If you've got high milage, 15w40 does the trick. Did it on my 218000km V6. Quite as ever, except when the oil got old. I reckon experiment every time you do an oil change, using different oils every time, see which ones make less noise. I always found 10w40 Magnatec made the engine very noisy. |

5w/40 fully synthetic Silkolene keeps mine purring. Magnatec makes the V6 sound like a bag of hammers. |

5w30 is listed as the oil to be used in the comma book for 1.8, i have 15w40 in and it taps for longer til it gets warm, the ford/mazda stuff cures it completely, must be supadupa special stuff!!!!!!! |

from the main dealer, had a 1.8 turbo mondeo at college wouldnt stop tapping, but with the manufacturers stuff it doesnt tap at all. infact on the main subject, i have put the 5w30 semi synthetic (xlite i think it was from comma) and there wasnt a single tap to be heard, hasnt tapped since and i put that in a few days ago. it must be that the tolerances are so that it needs thiner oil to get arolund it, and the thick 15w40 just isnt capable. |
