Probably wont make a difference unless you have some serious tuning or power to start off with.

I have some on order from Performance leads.

I'd say changing HT leads, plugs and dizzy cap are all service items and should be done at some point to retain good ignition.

www.formulapower.com are another source. Gold Club Members get a discount too.

I got Splitfire but Magnecor are supposed to be good as well.

You won't see a noticeable improvement unless your current ones are knackered. The stock leads aren't great and they're nearly as expensive as the aftermarket ones (especially if you hunt about).

I'm pretty sure that Magnecor do 7mm, 8mm and 10mm.

Splitfires are 8.8mm but have two separate conductors.

The greater the cross-sectional area of the conductor, the less resistance it will create. Also, thicker insulation prevents arcing and damage.

Yep, thicker cable means more electricity flowing down it more easily.

Less resistance (easier flow) means less current (power) needed to do the job so less stress on alternator, leads, distributor, etc.
