First things first - to get the wing mirrors off, you need to get the door cards off. You will need:

• 1x good sized phillips screwdriver
• 1x cup of tea (2x if you're AndyM )

Removing the door card

Firstly, you need to locate all the screws holding the door card onto the door. Pre-fords and post-fords do have different door cards - these pics are all referring to pre-fords but post fords are easy enough to find.

Pre-fords
1 screw inside door handle
2 screws inside door bin
1 covered screw in recess near dashboard

Post-fords
1 screw inside door handle
1 screw inside pull handle (look down)
1 screw inside upper corner of door pocket
1 covered screw in recess near dashboard





The covered screw can be removed by just popping the cap off with your fingernail (or flathead screwdriver) and unscrewing it.

Remove the screws, and put them in a safe place. Now, you need to unclip the door card. The card is hung at the top, and clipped around the sides and bottom, so start pulling the card away from the door, starting at the outer bottom corner. It may take a fair bit of force but just pull, it will come off! Once it unclips, work your way around the door until it's just hanging from the top.

Now that the door card is hanging on, lift the card upwards slightly and it should unhook from the door. This should now give you the room to pull the card away, but not too much - it's still plugged in! The driver's door has two connectors - one for the window switches and another for the wing mirror adjustment - unplug them and move the door card to one side.

Removing the mirror
This bit is relatively simple. First, peel back the corner of the clear plastic on the door card (you will discover this magical Mazda glue, that isn't particularly sticky but is IMPOSSIBLE to clean without power tools. Ignore the glue, and unplug the mirror connector (you can follow the wire from the mirror).



Next, remove the plastic cover hiding the mirror mounting screws. Easiest way is to stick two fingers in, and pull (two things I've never been able to do ). Once that flies off, never to be found again, you should see three zinc plated screws. These hold the mirror on, and are VERY tight! Here's where you need a really decent screwdriver and a bit of upper body strength. Unscrew these screws, and the mirror should fall off (might be a good idea to hold the mirror with one hand while you unscrew with the other).

Re-fitting is a complete reversal of removal
