Taken a quick look and can't find anything that jumps out at me, I swear we had a guide for this somewhere? I'm struggling to remove the aerial but to be honest I reckon it'll need replacing as I'm getting zero noise from it when I'm turning the radio on so I can only assume it's shagged, I'd like to replace OEM but first could do with a wee guide on how to remove it, I can only really see one bolt holding it together but when I shifted it, the aerial was still stuck, is it a little jammed in to make a water tight seal near the top? Help!

1. Remove contents of boot.
2. Remove boot liner and carpet.
3. Remove the middle and off side sections of boot lining plastic. Nae doubt the clips will already have gone. If not remove them.
4. Using a 10mm socket remove the nut that holds the bracket to the chassis.
5. Unscrew the chrome bit at the top of the aerial where it protrudes from the car. The aerial will now drop out when you unplug it.
6. 4 or 5 philips head screws hold it together. Take it apart and investigate.

They're a pain in the a**e to start with but keep at it and you'll get it back together.

Simon, that's absolutely perfect, I must admit I did my first investigation with the side trim only partly off because I'lll have to take off my rear strut to get a better view so I'll try again and have another fiddle, cheers Mate

Ok so after a lot faffing (mostly in the dark) I got it all out and took a look, when I opened it up and took over the greasy cover, everything popped open all the plastic cord, it didn't look in good shape anyway so kind of gave up with it, everything looked good connection wise, I've reinstalled it for the time being just to keep the top water tight.

Anyone know the going rate for a replacement OEM aerial?

I had one from Maplin. Got it early this year (Feb-March ish) and the cogs have worn rendering it useless as of a few weeks ago. Was perfect up until now, I think maybe the cold weather froze any moisture in the mast and the cogs just gave out.

Gone for a window aerial now, no moving parts and my car no longer looks like a remote controlled car anymore when using the radio :P

What one did you get? I've been looking to replace my aerial with something static, either a direct replacement on the rear or a window one

Where did you fit it? Easy enough to do?

I put it on the tailgate window right at the top. Getting the wiring through the rubber boot thing isn't the easiest thhing to do. I made a cut either end of it and so the wires appear at one end of it and disappear back in the the other end. Other than that, fairly easy

I don't get quite as many stations come up as I search through as I got with the old aeriel but at least this one doesn't have moving bits.

It has 3 connections - a short ground wire which I attached to a bolt under the plastics of the tailgate. Second is positive (the red you see in the second pic) which I connected to the remote wire for the old antenna, so it's only powered when the head unit is on. I think it's okay there, shouldn't take too much current.

Third is the coax signal cable, which has a moulded plug on the end of it and is quite long. Putting the wiring in was a lot easier with the roof lining prised down a bit, fairly easy to do, just unclip some of the trim around it in the car - should be able to see which bits when you attempt it.

edit- ignore the grey wire, that's for my boot release.

I'm going to look for a OEM replacement. I reckon I can pick one up for a good enough price I'm pretty good at finding cheap parts

I bought a new aerial mast from Mazda a few years ago for the low low price of almost £40.

£40 is good for an aerial though

Ouch! Well I've got a few hot leads for second hand aerials, just gotta wait on them to confirm some bits and bobs, including prices!

I am finding my window aerial is getting a bit of a weak signal with local radio stations. Might try moving the positive wire to another source to make sure it is getting power.

Well at the moment I'm not having much luck with the old aerial hunt most of the breakers either don't have them, broke them or they haven't got back to me because of the former 2 reasons!

For just a mast? Are you drunk?





Aye.. I asked about that. £140 odd if your car doesn't have a sunroof. Over £200 if it does. Unsure of what difference there is though!
