Hey folks, so today I thought I'd have a go at popping my momo wheel on... and came across this problem. I know its been covered before... but I can't find any guides with pictures...

So this bit is in the way:



How do I get round this problem?

Be speedy with answers if you can please guys!

Does your momo wheel have an airbag? If not, you need to remove that clockspring, hardwire the horn in, and bridge a resistor accross the airbag wires.

If it does have an airbag, you need to remove that clockspring and replace it with a clockspring from the car you took the steering wheel/airbag from.

EG if you used a BJ Sport wheel and airbag, you would need a BJ Sport clockspring bodged to fit

No airbag in the momo one, Hughie... how do I get the clockspring out..? I think I'm gonna need some help from someone who knows what they're doing here

Popped the original one back on for now... so I can get to work later on this afternoon

There are 3 screws I think. You can see one of them directly below your red LED in that photo. The other two should be on the passenger side of the clockspring. Undo them and it should just slide off the steering column

There's a steering wheel fitting guide on here somewhere which explains everything

Also, what condition is your standard wheel in? If it's good, send a PM to DMS

Just FYI, I recommend you disconnect the battery when you remove the airbag from the car

Oooh yes! 'twas the very first thing I did... I'm entertaining a young lady tomorrow... I thought about taking the battery out of the car!!

Airbag is no longer connected, so I won't have to worry on the next attempt

In which case, your airbag warning light will be on - I'm sure the young lady will find that interesting

Perhaps you could entertain her by taking a trip to Maplin and getting a 3.3ohm resistor, then bridging the airbag wires in the connector to put the light out?

Nope, all fine and dandy If you read further up in HughieWs guide to automotive romance (i.e this thread ) you'll see I had a reason to be careful when taking the old one off!

I just left the nut on the thread so when i yanked the wheel, it hit the nut rather than my noggin

I know I'm being anal but my RX7 airbag wheel fitted onto the F clockspring, all the block connectors connected straight up too, you'd need to do it if you wanted an incompatible system but I'm too scared of the bag going off in my face for that, I waited 3 hoursto make damn sure the charge had drained from mine before I swapped them

I still can't believe the guy I bought it from sent it through the post

Can you please explain "hard wire the horn" and "bridge a resistor accross the airbag wires" ?
I have put my steering wheel in but have both those problems to sort out.

how have you all wired in your horn button?
the boss i got has the old style metal plate on the back which usually just rubs against a pin on the steering coloumn.

I've started to modify the original slock spring to accept the new boss which works (ie the horn goes beepbeep ) but i need to test full lock left and right as the coiled ribbon wire fell out when i opened it

if it passes the full lock test then im ok but if not then some ideas on how you guys did it would be useful

I removed my clockspring and did it the old fashioned way - horn wire soldered onto a paperclip which I wedged in a screwhole (where the clockspring used to be screwed in), then just bent the paperclip so that it touched the ring on the boss kit

sounds like a good back up plan hughie!
hope the clock spring works though
