I don't think you'll notice any real difference on the road, as they are very biased toward the front as you say :thumbleft:

Thanks.
Another question:
Did you have to change the traling arms as well? I've been told that the bushes rust to the lateral bolt and you have to destroy them which means you need new arms as well...in that case i think i'd leave it all alone ^^

Trailing arms are different on the V6 but they're interchangable. However they're not on the lateral bolt, they're on their own seperate stub on the bottom of the hub carrier, which doesn't tend to be a problem - should come straight off.

The only difficulty in the whole thing is lateral link bolts, but if you're purchasing a whole V6 rear beam, you don't have to touch them, so it's a fairly simple swap. Took me two days, not knowing what I was doing, at the side of the road, in the snow

I reckon I could do it now in maybe 3 hours tops? :dontknow:

Ok, some information might have been lost in translation...
I didnt mean the trailing arms but the lateral links.

I dont intend to swap the whole rear axle since i won't be able to find one in a condition as good as mine, which is why i only want to swap the spindles like indicated in this thread.

By the way, does anyone know why the V6 uses different trailing arms?

Oh right ok, the lateral link arms are the same across both types of rear axle, but you'll need to get the lateral link bolts out to swap the spindles :(

I think the V6 switched to tubular trailing arms for strength, but I kept the standard pressed steel trailing arms on mine and never had any problems on track :thumbleft:

when stu did his, the only part of the lateral bolt that he had a problem with was the part in the spindle

He disc cut the bolt either side of the spindle and then removed the bolt from the bushes and then put the new spindle and bolt through the existing bushes

It will all depend on the state of your bushes though......

Have you got all the parts you need for this?

Still collecting - seems that parts from that era are getting rare.
Thanks for the helpful advice! I'll try and remoce the nut to see whether i could move one bush on that end of the bolt to assess the situation. I'm hopeful though since there's no excessive rust on any of the parts.

Like Matt says, if you cut the the head off the old lateral link bolts, and remove the nut, you the lateral link arms should come off, it's just getting the rest of the bolt out of the hub carrier.

Maybe the worlds strongest vice or press would do it :dontknow: but if you have hub carriers with no bolts in, and brand new bolts - you're golden!

How soon you looking to do the conversion

I have EVERYTHING for the conversion including carriers with the bolts removed and replacement bolts and brand new handbrake cables ;)

It's all in storage with my parents though, give me a pm of what you need, I may be able to help you out with what you need but it would take a couple of weeks to be able to get my hands on the parts......

Well, sounds very tempting, but i guess it would be too expensive to get all of it shipped to me.
Plus i already have an offer for the parts needed except bolts and calipers.
Still, i'll drop you a pm just to be sure :)

I am so Lucky to have a full garage With lifts and lots of Tools to help me. So I just lifted the car too a good working height and soaked the bolts in 5-56/WD-40 and used an air impact tool on the bolt head, and had a friend whack away at all the parts the bolts og through. It took less than 5 mins to get out. It took me two hours alone on the other one...

I still recomend getting New ones, as mine where slightly bent, so when I got them loose, I could adjust the toe in/out by a couple degrees...
