finally i have had time to sit down and make this guide on how i refurbed my battered v6 splitter.
sorry it took so long to get done but here it is.
ps- sorry about the big pics but couldn't be arsed to make them all smaller.

firstly you'll need your v6 splitter. mine was in a really bad way
Image
the corners were all ripped and frayed.
next is the things you'll need.
1-sand paper think i used 240 and worked my way down to 1200. depends on how smooth you want the finish.
2-a candle
3-an old knife
4-a well ventailated area to work
Image
first thing you need to do is to clean the area of the splitter your refurbing and sand it down til its got a rough texture.
next you take a sharp knife and remove the plastic tabs off the middle section of the splitter.
Image
my bumper doesn't have the holes for these to fit into so thats why i removed them.
next you light the candle
Image
this is where it gets tricky and fun. cut the small tabs into strips with a sharp knife and place one of the small plastic strips on the splitter where the damage is.( if you have a vice use it as it can be difficult to balance the splitter). using the lighter heat the small bit of plastic til it starts to melt. very quickly heat the old knife over the candle so the blade gets very hot.
Image
before the small bit of plastic cools down use the hot knife to press the melted plastic into the damaged areas of the splitter.
you can add more pieces of plastic, melting them and pressing them with the hot knife as you need them. it depends on the damage to the splitter.
you should end up with the damaged area looking like this
Image
Image
take the sandpaper and smooth it off. work your way up to the 1200grit paper. once the filled in area is nice and smooth give it a few light coats of this
Image
this paint should stay nice and flexible and not crack with movement of the splitter. you should end up with a refurbished splitter looking something like this.
Image.
important things to remember.
1-make sure your in a well ventilated room inhaling burning plastic isn't good for you.
2-the knife is hot so be careful when touches theplastic of the splitter cos the splitter will melt.
3-when using the hot knife to smooth the melted plastic, try and think of filling in the damaged areas as if you where using pollyfiller on a cracked wall. light smooth movements. and keep the knife hot or it'll stick to the plastic. patience is the key to this job guys so don't rush it

this is a rough guide on how i did it. other people may have some better tools etc. but as the title sys its a guide so don't come crying when you melt a hole in your splitter lol.
being serious hope this helps some of you guys and sorry it took so long to post. good luck :thumbright:

about the paint?

Is it Satin, Matt, or Gloss Black Super Enamel?

Oh and.....for any paint experts....would it not be better to use plastic primer first before the paint stage?

i wouldn't use a cellulose primer, it can make some plastics go brittle apparently. Best go straight on as suggested above.

i was told not to use the primer as the paint i used doesn't need it. it's flexible enough by itself.
the stuff i used was matt black. sorry the pic wasn't clearer it does say it on the tin.

hmmm.....it seems that my splitter isnt as damages as first thought

its not ripped or anything like yours....it just has like some small scrapes outta it.....so therefore the plastic isnt stickig in really well

not sure weather i should try filler.....it may not crack because its only tiny bits.....what you reckon?
