Been considering getting a short shifter and found this one on eBay.

Anyone have any experience with short shifters?
Is it worth installing one?

I had this exact one (I think) on my V6 track car and it makes such a massive difference! Add a weighted/longer knob and it make the gear change so much more engaging!

Hey Kristov :)

It will make a difference. However, you want it to be a positive difference.

I had a conversation with Andy about this the other day. We both have eBay short shifters on our V6s, and neither of us are happy with them: they're difficult to engage, and we're both hunting for the right gear, the gear change is not a smooth process.

They're low quality, universal parts designed to ram into any car that has a gearbox. Frankly I would avoid eBay and spend the money on a good quality one in the first place, that will be better designed and machined, and comes from a known & reputable manufacturer who will hopefully give you a warranty, and assist you if it breaks, or if you have fitment problems. Your car is worth it!

As soon as my V6 is actually on the road  I'm replacing the current shifter with the standard one, and if I do decide to get another short shifter, I'll spend as much money as I can afford on a decent one.

With no disrespect to Lee, who's obviously been very lucky with his!

Yea, was talking with fellow member Isaac Burlo and he told me that he had that same ebay short shifter and it was the worst thing ever, very hard to engage and it eventually broke, he advised me against it. But does anyone know of a high quality short shifter for the ba?

TWM did one for the BA, Andy has one in his other BA (which was originally a 1.5). I don't know if they still make it for the BA now. You might find a good second-hand one.

And if you don't want to spend much money amd have some beginer welding skills, you can do your own one from the stock shifter as i did.I've extended the botom part size twice, and cut the top part with maybe 4-5cm.
Stock bends, shorter throw, lower profile. Can you ask for more?
Cheers!
