Post subject:  fuel gauge, and electric aerial!!

hi all, had my Mazda 323f GXi for about a month now, its great and i love it, but two things need sorting, PLEASE can someone help:
1-fuel gauge now sticks, its still on 3/4 full, this happened after the charge light flashed a few times.car seems fine, idling ok e.t.c.how can i fix this?

2-my electric aerial is broken, it snapped off.I have removed the aerial, including the grey toothy bit that winds up (actually i had no choice, it unwinded all the way out!), how do i replace it, do I have to remove all those panels in the boot!!!?
many thanks in advance, I hope someone can give me some help!

Not sure about the Gauge problem but for the Aerial you will have to remove just the End Trim (has the Tailgate lock throught it) which will then expose one of the Fasteners to start removing the Right Hand Trim and then yoU will see the Aerial Motor/Housing.Replacement 'Pole' (Antenna) costs £27.56 plus VAT from a Mazda Dealer, but would not know how to fit it. Best to ask them...

thankyou very much for helping V6GREG, I will have another go at removing the panel, I have tried once, but i couldnt get it to come off...thinking back actually I didnt remove the little light..is this wired in??
If possible, could u advice me on one more thing...I have seen electric aerials on ebay for £10 and so on, these claim to be universal, will these fit??
thanks again! :D

...Yes that light will carefully pop out ,(from the sides, observe connections!) then dsisonnect.
hhmm Universal Aerials. Not sure on these, but when you buy something named 'Universal' that sort of item tends to need slight alteration or some clever solution to make it fit.

This is what my Mazda dealer told me about the aerials, but it needs an official aerial which cost about £30. To remove the old one you need to press down into the two little holes either side of the aerial in the housing (while the stereo is off), which should depress a couple of catches. Now turn the stereo on and the aerial (or what is left) should simply extend until the plastic track appears, and it can then be pulled out (slowly). To fit the new one is the opposite. With the stereo on, guide the long plastic track into the hole, then turn the stereo off - the motor will then retract the aerial into place.

Unfortunately I can't tell you if this works 'cos I fell at the first hurdle: whoever fitted my aerial rotated it in place and I can't get at the catches so I can't release the old one. Rotating the housing doesn't work as it all rotates together. Removing the inside panels is a lot easier said than done too - I gave up on that.
