V6s are, I believe, quite fussy... but why 5W30 or 10W40? - there are more grades available

I used 5w30 in our 120k motor and it's running like a dream, ours hasn't been fussy yet with oil. If you don't burn oil then that is what I would use

5w40 would be good if you were worried about oil consumption. 5w30 if the engine is still a good one. |

Why didn't you do this oil change before you put a load of treatments and additives in? A good oil change with a decent oil may have helped your problem anyway

Did you ever hear his engine? I don't think even the best and most expensive oil in the world would have sorted that. |

marcrs wrote: why 5W30 or 10W40? - there are more grades available ![]() I just thought these were the ideal oils for the V6 karissabob wrote: Why didn't you do this oil change before you put a load of treatments and additives in? I was able to pick the treatment up cheaper thanks to a good friend i will be adding another bottle during the oil change. The engine doesnt burn any oil, just noisy on start up. She still pulls very well, im sure _stuz_ will vouch for this

What are you running now; semi synthetic ? or full synth? Always stick to what you have. The viscosity doesn't makes a lot different. Mazda recommends 5W30 for the V6 I used it a while, full synht 5W30 Castrol Edge but I am now running on the 0W40 Castrol Edge Sport for some heavy use of the engine |

I will vouch for the car pulling extremely well, yes the treatment is uber cheap too so it was worth a punt. overall it's a cracking engine for 160k and I would say it has been looked after well previously. |
