Whilst the first of the snow kicked in, I went over a painted roundabout, thinking it would be safer; unfortunately it just sent me sliding towards the kerb in which the front passenger wheel bounced off. As you can imagine this knocked the wheel alignment out quite a bit.

So I headed up to the local garage, they tried to realign the front wheels, but it seemed they were having trouble. They then said they would use their super laser thing which aligns front and rear wheels, and everything was OK. I also got a new set of front tyres as the old were barely legal.

Ever since, there's been a strange resonating noise that seems loudest around 43mph. There's no vibration in the steering wheel, and the car drives, brakes and accelerates in a straight line. It's a low pitched throbbing resonance. I thought maybe it was some frozen snow on the tyre throwing the wheel balance off, but now the snow has cleared, it's still there.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the wheel is untrue.

Possibly wheel bearing.

i would vote bearing too..

I'd say you have a noisy tyre...as since you had them changed, you've suffered the noise...

swap wheels over (fronts to rears) and see if the noise stays with the wheel

I'd say bearing, as I hit a rear wheel into a kerb and bent the lateral link arms, replaced the rear axle, now i get a wobbly humming noise from the bearing (the only part left on the car that took some of the impact).

But Marc has a good point - try swapping the front/rear tyres over, see if the noise moves to the rear. If it does, it's the wheel easier to replace than a front bearing
