Hello its my first time here so a big hello to everybody!

My windscreen wipers came to a clunking halt on my drive into work this morning.

Ive done a search and came across some posts where a similar thing happened.

Ive open up the compartments where the parts are and it looks like the linkage is broken? (Is this the correct name)

Does anyone know what i need to do to fix this or do I need to order a complete wiper unit?

I managed to reattached the link but its not secure.



This is the part thats broken. It fits back on but is very loose. I tried the wipers again after reattaching but it broke as soon as i put the wipers on.

(Sorry i should say its an S Reg Mazda 323)!

I also posted this in the 94-98 forum as wasnt sure which to put it in since car is a 98!

Sometimes you can fix it by drilling through the cup part, and into the ball part, threading it, and using a bolt (not too tight, threadlock into the thread to keep is secure)
It's probably easier to go to a breakers and get another unit from a scrap car - get all the parts, unless you can easily see which part is broken (usually the arm with the cup part on it)

Yes it the arm with the cup part thats broken. Its comes apart as you can see in the photo.

Do you know the name of this part or do i need the whole unit.

Ive rang around all my local mazda scrappers this morning. Few and far between im afraid and noone has the part.

Can anyone recommend anywhere i can buy from?

It's the linkage - you could try a wanted thread on here, there are a couple of breakers. If you have a pic of your car, it will clear up the model type question (BA or BJ)

Common problem too on the BA

Just spoke to someone at my local mazda dealer.

Does it look like I need a new socket or do I need a complete set of linkage arms?

New sockets around 25 quid compared to 122 quid for complete new linkage

Also if the forum moderator could put this in the correct forum now i know my car is a BA

All you need is the one linkage arm which goes from the motor to the ball where it has popped off. Costs about £25
