welll little update from accross the pond...

to be clear ; the engine died i have no idea what the exact probleme is, but i do know that its pretty serious, probably a valve, piston of the hydraulic valve lifters... i have to find out.

We were heading to the castlecomb circuit, only on the border of belgium and france the car stopt.. first we tought it was the sparkplugwiring again because 1 of them came of back in holland too.. but on that moment we noticed that the wiring was all fine, so we drove quickly to a garage nearby to buy some sparkplugs, mayby those where fried... nopee.. that wasnt it, no japfest for the BG when japfest ended we towed back home for like 400km's and now its standing in my garage....

soo now i have to sort out what the probleme is with the engine, i hope its an hydrauliclifter because those can be refitted very easly. i also have to buy some gaskets for the wastegate because that is leaking as well..

i'll keep you guys updated!

I've heard that the inlet camshaft has snapped into 2 pieces... but I will let Adri post the full details of the problem

How in the F do you get a broken cam...

The only ways I could possibly think of that happening:

1. incorrectly installed camshaft bearings
2. no camshaft bearings
3. magic
4. sabotage
5. camshaft already cracked maybe
6. magic

I guess its #1... thanks to the previous owner, maybe.

@ hughie : yes it was magic

no the previous owner didn't installed the bearings propperly so 2 bolts came loose and the bearing aswell. thanks to the rockercover the bolts stayed in place and the 1 piece of the cam shaft stayed on his place. Else it would fly all around the rocker cover and mess up more parts...

soo i installed a new (used) camshaft, new camshaft oilseals, new rockercover gasket, new sparkplug wiring, redid the timingbelt and its running like before so for now i have to instal new wastegate gaskets and manifold to turbo gasket because the leak alot.

Good work You should have trailored it to Japfest - I'm sure between us all, we could have sourced an inlet cam, bought all the gaskets etc and had her ready for the track by 16:30

Oh is the inlet cam different to the BP-05? I thought it was just the exhaust cam there's a GTR breaking somewhere in the UK I'm sure

Whoever "fitted" that cam bearing needs shooting - that's clearly not bolted down properly glad it was an easy fix though

Jup, the inlet cam is different and yes a good whoopass will certainly be in place. It has not been tightend correctly else it hasn't been come undone..

@ the rest: i didn't told why the car didn't started at all back in dover, that was not because of the camshaft. But the fueltank, it was as flat as a pancake :P because of a large vacum in the fueltank reduced it 2 in size

soo now i have to get some money together for a 30 or 40ltr fuelcel.

i would put a magnetic sump plug in there.
to try and catch the little bits floating around in the engine.

I already have it in my 2.5V6, but it's almost no money for a magnetic sump plug

Yep, literally a couple of quid, I had one in my saab 9000 a few years ago,
And its suprising what it picks up, even when you think your engine is cleen, it will still pick bits up that a oil filter doesnt

maybe that is becouse first the oil drops into the sump.. and then get suckt into the oilpump/filter etc.
but after all.. better safe then sorry

according to the Haynes manual the BG's have two magnets in the sump already to collect metal particles.

Requires you to crack the sump open to clean them though. Its recommended to do every once in a while though and clean all the sludge out of the sump apparently

Very sad to hear she wasn't coming to Japfest!

And... it broke down again, this time the oil feed for the turbo... and yes! again that oil line! The first time it teared off at the engine side, now the turbo side. Yet again 3 or 4 liters of expensive oil on the street

Starting to hate the damn engine, unreliable as &#!@$.

My brother 'Barreljan' already arranged a proper oil feed/return kit what probably keeps in one piece after more than 1000km, but it is in the shipping proces.
