Oh yes! a dark metallic bronze like an old 2p in colour . DOooo IT!

I had thought about going for a dark grey finish for them but also like the silver

So today I started to treat rust on tailgate. Most of it was along bottom of window.
Sanded back rust and treated with Genolite rust eater. Then sprayed with Zinc primer.






I know it's a bit rough, plan is to carbon wrap centre section of tailgate.

why you no take the plastic bit off? you'll probably want to get inside too, it'll need treatment in there if it's rusty on the surface

The old rust monkeys have been having a party, will need some more welding done before Mot and don't know how much more money I can continue throwing at it.

If you pop off the interior piece, you'll find it's held on with some m10 nuts

I know what you mean though mate, you have to know when to draw the line. The RX7 is in with Garath at the moment for some more welding, then I'll have to paint it again...luckily that won't cost much!

take off the plastic boot handle trim thing and fill the key hold. will look excellent.

How are the arches looking, Stu? Sad to hear that such a lovely car is also starting to fall victim to the big R.

Rear arches are starting to bubble, will have a go at sprucing them up a bit.
Would like to sort it all properly but cost is the issue.

So as you know I had to give up on this car because of rust.
Was stripping few bits off it this week and got underneath to remove exhaust. Car has been sitting almost a year but I was quite shocked as to the extent the rust monkeys had gone.






And this car had been undersealed a few years ago. Almost ready for its final journey to scrappy.

Eeeeaaargh!

What do you guys do there... dip them in an acidic salt bath and then electrolyse them???

But seriously I feel really sorry for you all in the UK, if only you could come down to Oz and pick up the car bodies being scrapped and swap your mechanicals in you'd have another 20 years no probs. Mechanically your cars would have soldiered on for ever but unfortunately there'll be nothing left to hold the mechanism.

I think some of the British car makers of the past have been unfairly maligned in terms of corrosion prevention (but NOT in terms of mechanical/electrical robustness)

It's interesting:
- In Britain, high corrosion leading to scrapping, low mechanical/other wear/failure
- In Oz, almost no corrosion, high mechanical/other wear/failure leading to scrapping.
