This ONLY applies 4 stud BG or BA models, GTR/GTX BG unknown, BA V6 will need some playing with different rotor sizes

Image

So far i have found two options for this upgrade
one requires cutting of stuff
the other is bolt on

first the parts for option 1 ( No cutting of stuff)

BA V6 hubs complete
BG 4 cly 4 stud wheel bearings and 4 stud centers x 2
Rotors; Your choice of either Slotted/drilled BG GTX/ Astina GT rotors or NB8 MX5/Miata rotors (270mm), * Pads overlap 1mm when using stock 257mm rotors
Calipers; BJ series wagon Subaru Legacy GT turbo (2pot)
Brake brackets; Mazda GD 626/TX5/Probe
Washers of 2-3mm , Cyl head bolt washers work well (i'll explain later)
Brake pads; as above, but use some Bendix DB1114 or something better than OEM
Brake lines; your choice of either OEM/Braided etc for BG models * Careful, there are two types ive found, a large and a small Neck Banjo head, i tested using the a split small neck type, all ok, but my car was fitted with a large neck banjo bolt. Large neck requires filling down part of the caliper, 5 mins extra

First Push out the V6 5 stud Center, push in the 4 stud center
Paint/bling up the calipers from the Subi/Mazda combo

Take note of the numbers on the caliper " AD602T " this may have changed during the Subi models, but you need the one with 1 bolt , not 2

the orange brings out the color in my eyes :P , best of all NO cutting :P , just bolt it to the V6 hubs, put 2-3mm thick washers between HUb and caliper to be on the safe side, ie DONT TEST FIT using 21mm Rotors when you have 22mm, kinda confuses you when you see 4mm clear on side yet only 1.5 on the other

removal of old setup from ya car,

Fit new rotors, , put the good heat/copper grease on moving parts and bolt together with new pads
check steering arm lengths are ok, bleed them brakes, run/ bed pads in ,, DONE

Option two (cutting, swearing, beer/bourbons, & time) <-- i No longer recommend this unless you enjoy trial and error.. f*** IT

Parts for Option 2

BA V6 hubs complete
BG 4 cly 4 stud wheel bearings and 4 stud centers x 2
Rotors; Your choice of either Slotted/drilled BG GTX/ Astina GT rotors or NB8 MX5/Miata rotors (270mm)
Calipers; T series Mazda Millenia/Xedos 9 S/C or 2.5 V6 (2pot)
Brake brackets; As above
Brake pads; as above, but use some Bendix DB1326 or something better than OEM
Brake lines; your choice of either OEM or Braided etc for BG models *work fine with either small or big neck banjo heads

Take note of the caliper cast numbers "AD43T" and 2 bolt arrangement
Image

You need to cut back this much off the caliper bracket, tiny amounts off the hubs, casting line was in my way on 1 hub, other was ok

* The bracket side facing the Wheels needs to be "trimmed" if it hits your wheels...my 14" OEM mazda mags clear it..yet my Enkai stuff hits the bracket, needs a good 2-3mm trimmed off it ...<--reason i gave up for the night

Image

The bolt holes in the V6 hub needs to be drilled out 2mm to fit the millenia bolts, 14mm i think? i didnt do that bit
Image

the dust sheild? also needs a tiny amount chopped off, 2mm as it hits the corner of the bracket

Strangely but there is NO overlap on the Millenia pad when using stock Astina GT rotors???
Image

Passes the 14" wheel test, i started to laugh when this fitted
Image

drop new pads in
Fit new rotors, and bolt together

removal of old setup from ya car, Bolt in the above setup, check steering arm lengths are ok, bleed them brakes, run/ bed pads in ,, DONE[/b]

Brilliant, I'm sure some people will find the useful!

I'm suprised you can use the BA V6 hubs on the BG as well.

..yeah stock BG brakes are great!!

Untill you try stopping after 3 laps of a average 2.2km track.....no so "great" then...doing 190kmh and your brakes giving out...gassing up...glowing purple, smoke everywhere, wheel shuddering hard as the thing wont stop........no not good

For a street only car..leave the brakes AS IS
for a car that has TURBO and does 13's 1/4s and alot of track days where ever possible..then YES well worth the upgrade

Ive just paid £90 for calipers and brackets, just need Hubs, rotors, brake pads and braided hose, I reckon will cost just over £250 but all depends on how cheap ur breakers is.

Well, I´m from Spain and my level of English is poor; after read it you use 4 calipers for the brake upgrade, isn´t it?2 from Subaru Legacy and 2 from Mazda 626, and with those 4 calipers, you build another one specific for the 323.

If this is correct, why don´t you use only one pair of calipers???

In my case, I fit 15" wheels with ET33 in my 323 1.8 BG, what can I do for improve my brakes??I want something "plug & play".

Thank you.

no - you need the caliper brackets from the 626 and the calipers from the subaru

the BG doesnt have caliper brackets - but some of the others do - this is possibly where you are getting confused

Hi guys,

I know this is an old thread... So sorry in advance. To those who have completed this conversion; does this upset the brake balance much? Im running a BA V6 with stock brakes at the moment.

To balance this correctly would I need to use a brake balance kit to push a little more pressure to the back to compensate?

Also, please excuse my lack of brake knowledge but what is a brake booster?

Cheers guys,

by the way im back from a long time of not being on here, nice to see there is some awsome stuff going on in the world of the 323F!

Hi Morpheus,

we have done this and swapped drums for discs on the back of our 1.5 323f
i can say we have had no issues with brake balance although we have not tested them on track as of yet (should do at Japfest 2011)
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=42067 :D
hope this helps

:D
