Looking good Chris :-)

Your compression test is interesting, very much like mine, same cylinder shows low compression, except when I last tested mine number three cylinder was around 10psi, the other three up around 14/15. I'm certain it's the valve seal, which we all know is a common Z5 issue, having said that, mines been like it for nearly five years, yes, she burns more oil than she should and you get a cloud of blue smoke on start up if she's been standing but she drives fine and flies through the emissions test :-)

That really doesnt make much sense to me - valve seals (the ones that let oil pass into the comustion chamber) only get in contact with said chamber when the valve is open - which does not affect compression.
That the valve seats might let go is true and another issue entirely. However, valve seats dont affect oil consumption.
By the way, i do not get blue smoke or oil consumption. Just a 3 calinder start / warmup phase that gets longer and longer over time and rough idle even when warmed up.
Since the valve seats sealing capabilities arent that affected by heat, i'd suspect the compression ring of cylinder 3. Doesnt really matter now since i've already placed a deposid for another car...

Congrats on the new car, is it a donor or did you buy a new one ready for some proper TLC?

Well. The other side is a mess (accident damage, door wont open). I'm only interested in the mechanicals :)
I can sell you the wing if you like ;)

Proper donor material :)

I kinda like the vents as well, are they neatly made or just hack and slash job? Would be interested in buying if neatly done.

Looking forward to the transplant photos, when are you planning to start?

Arne

Hi Arne,

the vents are well made actually. Swap will start end of august, maybe beginning of september, we'll see.

Just a few more pics:

The engine is running quite well, oil consumption has gone down. I changed oil and coolant and they looked alright. So i guess mechanically its ok. Compression values also are alright.

However, it recently developed some ignition issues and i yet have to make it work with the BPM8 ECU without immobilizer...fingers crossed :)

Alright, the car now runs without the immobilizer thanks to a BPM8 ecu and a modified wiring harness :)

I then exchanged the distributor and the engine now runs very well without any problems (as far as i could work out without taking it for a test drive on the street).

I then went on the internet and did some shopping :)

Everything is working fine? Have you changed the ecu and wiring loom?

Yeah, i will post a writeup of the last few days, but the wiring loom and ecu were changed, as were the brakes, gear box, drive shafts, hubs, exhaust...
Took 4 days with 3-4 people incl some fabrication work and a few mistakes ^^
Runs good now but there's still work to be done :)

Ok guys, i did a full write up in geman but i really cant bring myself to translate all of it - so the short version: Me and my mate went to a city 300kms away, swapped and serviced the engine with a few more mates, had fun, drank beer, i hit myself with a wrench, drank more beer, cleaned up and went back home with a 350km detour :)

Here's some pictures:

Runs fine. A lot smoother than the BPs that i know from the NA or BG GT. Which surprised me a bit but its nice. It's also less loud than the old engine which is also surprising ^^
