Cold Air Induction
For those of you who have bought inductions kits and would like to get some more cold air
in to the engine bay and cant find a route, this is the guide for you.
When you removed you orginal air box there was an air feed that ran from the bottom of the air box into
the wheel arch, if like me you thought that this pipe supplied cold air you would be wrong it actually
runs in to a resonator box which then has a pipe that runs up in to the top of the arch which is almost
sealed off, ok the air is colder here than it is in the engine bay but there is no flowing air in this area
to push cold air through the pipes in to the engine bay so the resonator box is useless and by removing
it we will have a route that runs to the front of the car and be using flexi pipe we can have a proper
cold air feed from the front of the car to the induction kit.
There are two ways of doing this one is my way or the other is shown on Astina GT.
Step 1
Remove the passanger side head lamp, you will need to unclip the two wires then remove the 3x 10mm bolts (one on top,
on the left and one on the right). Once the light has been disconnected carefully wriggle the light out.
Step 2
Next inside the engine bay remove the black air feed pipe that used to connect to the air box and also remove the piece of pipe that connects the
black pipe to the white resonator box. To do this use a short cross headed screw driver. Note if you cannot get at the screws try again later.
Step 3
Remove the front left tyre (obviously using a jack etc..).
Step 4
Now that you have enough space, unscrew the first few arch clips or if they dont unscrew use a knife to pop the middle sections out, you
then need to unscrew the 2 bolts that hold the black plastic to the bottom of the bumper. The black plastic should now be movable
Step 5
From the inner arch you should now be able to see the one 10mm/12mm bolt holding the top of the white resonator box to
the car and unscrew it. Now go back to the front of the car an look down the hole where the light used to be and
you will see another 10mm/12mm bolt holding the box in place, unscrew it. The resonator box should now be lose.
Step 6
Now the resonator box is lose you maybe able to pull it out or you may find that it won't quite make it. If you find that
it wont quite come out you need to remove a very small section of piping at the top of the resonator box, use a flat head
screw driver to help pop it off, I found that the screw driver popped it off most of the way and i had to use my hand to
pull the rest of it off. You should now be able to wiggle the resonator box out through the wheel arch, its very tight
but it does come out.
Step 7
Now with the flexi pipe feed one end as far into the front bumper as you can if possible push it through enough so
that it faces out through the grill, the 100mm pipe i used was to big to do this so it is wedged into the side. This wont
be as good but is better than nothing. Now with the other end pull it through the gap where the black pipe used top be and strech the piping
you to the induction kit, if the piping
is to long you can cut it at this point but I would say leave a little extra just incase. I taped the top of my flexi pipe and pierced a
small hole for the cable tie. Now attach the cable tie to the old mount for the standard air box and you air filter should sit
directly above it.
Step 8
Refit everything.
