Model History for the Mazda 323 (1994-98)

August 1994
New 323 range launched: 5-door 1.5i GL, 3-door 1.5i GLX Auto, 1.5i GLX Saloon, 5-door 1.5i GLX (all 90 bhp); and 2.0i V6 GLX (147 bhp), all with PAS and independent suspension. 1.5i models have disc/drum brakes, 2.0i V6 has ABS. GLX equipment includes tinted glass, electric front windows and mirrors (elecrear windows on Saloon and 2.0i V6), central locking, rear head restraints, split folding rear seat. 3-door, Saloon and 2.0i V6 have elec sunroof. Saloon and GLX 5-door have twin airbags. 2.0i V6 GLX has remote locking, alloy wheels, heated door mirrors.

October 1994
1.8i GLX (115 bhp) 5-door launched in UK.

March 1995
Transponder code immobiliser system fitted.

April 1995
1.3i 3-door (75 bhp) launched in UK.

January 1996
Revised range launched in UK: 1.5i LXi and GXi, 1.8 Executive and Executive Auto, and 2.0i ZXi. All models except LXi have electric sunroof and twin airbags. 1.8i and 2.0i have ABS.

May 1996
Limited edition (of 400) 1.5 `Figaro' launched. New price £11995. Used/Trade values approx. 5% higher than 1.5 LXi.

September 1996
Special edition 1.5 `Mystique' launched. New price £11995, Used and Trade values approx. 5% higher than 1.5 LXi.

January 1997
1.3 LXi and 1.5 GXi 3-door Hatchbacks and 1.5 GXi Saloon launched. 2.0 V6 ZXi now has standard air conditioning. Special edition 1.5 `Innsbruck' 5-door (£13745) launched. Used and Trade values slightly higher than 1.5 GXi 5-door.

May 1997
Special edition 1.5 `Estoril' 5-door (£13860) launched. Used and Trade values slightly higher than 1.5 GXi 5-door.

September 1997
Special edition 1.5 `Venetian' 5-door (£13860). Used and Trade values slightly higher than 1.5 GXi 5-door.

November 1997
Revisions: 5-door models have standard air conditioning; 1.5 Gxi have alloy wheels and rear spoiler.

December 1997
Special edition 1.5 `Imola' 5-door (£14365) launched. Used and Trade values slightly higher than 1.5 GXi 5-door.

June 1998
Special edition 1.5 GXi 'Intrigue' 5-door (£14650) and 2.0 ZXi 'SE' 5-door (£18650) launched. Used values approx. 5% higher than comparable standard models.
